Teddy’s Story

Ted Pierre is one of the three founding members of The Universal Temple of Performance & Edible Arts (UTOPEA).

With Teddy’s help and involvement, UTOPEA has emerged from being just a simple idea amongst childhood friends to a community and arts driven non profit organization dedicated to bringing performance and edible arts and culture to underserved communities throughout Queens and the other boroughs.

In Late November 2022, Ted suffered a series of medical emergencies within less than a week’s time. Doctors worked hard on trying to diagnose and properly treat Teddy. Unfortunately, Teddy quickly began to experience multiple organ failure which included his heart. Teddy had to undergo a series of emergency procedures which included a heart and kidney transplant.

By God’s Miracle, and against all odds, Teddy survived his medical ordeal!

However, Teddy’s medical battles has taken a toll on his body.

Ted is now paraplegic and requires full time medical care. He is permanently disabled and has a very long and arduous road ahead of him.

UTOPEA wouldn’t exist without Teddy. Teddy’s presence and legacy is interwoven into the very fabric of our organization and our mission.
